Entering and winning competitions is fun but there are more and more scammers about these days when it comes to claiming prizes. These scammers want you to believe you have won a competition in order to steal your money, identity or both. The good news is that it is easy to stay safe and avoid these scams if you follow these simple rules:

1. Never click a link to claim a prize

2. Never pay or provide your debit card details to claim a prize

3. Never phone a premium rate phone number (usually starting 09) to claim a prize

4. Always check that the person that is notifying you of the win is genuine - if it is on social media then check if it is from the official page with the correct number of followers and if it is via email then check on the companies website or phone them etc to check that the person/email is genuine
